Bloom: An Instructor focused yoga booking app

When I first set out to design Bloom I decided to focus primarily on the booking process of yoga classes for students. When I began researching what other booking apps were doing I found that most of them, if not all focused primarily on booking classes through a studio. I wanted Bloom to fill the gap between students and the actual instructors who teach them.

The Objective

While working with studios is still an option for this app, I wanted to specifically design an experience that centered around connecting instructors and students without having to go to a studio. Kind of like a pick up game of basketball, I wanted classes booked through Bloom to have a similar local and spontaneous feel.

The ultimate goal of Bloom is to empower students to find and work with instructors either one-on-one or as a group in public or private spaces.

Understanding the User

In order to successfully create an app based on an “instructor-centric” approach, user stories provided the project with an insight into the drives and goals of the various target demographics for the app.

Here you’ll see Rachael, the committed yoga student. I wanted identify and communicate what she might be going through before changing any copy or design.

Post-User Review

After testing the prototype with users I gathered more information on how to improve my design. Here are a few my research suggested I add:

  • a scrolling homepage featuring promotions or suggestions for new users

  • less confusing time display for classes that are available, closed, and selected (i.e. the 4:00 time slot text should be lightened so it's more obvious that it's unavailable)
